Answering the Call (ATC) Course in Arizona: Health & Emergency Medical Preparedness & Response

Answering the Call: Health & Emergency Medical Preparedness & Response is a free 4-hour basic awareness level course that provides a broad overview of local emergency response and preparedness. The course serves as the core information for all health and emergency response professionals within Arizona and is a mixture of didactic lecture and audience discussion activities which can be presented together as a 4-hr course, separately as 1-hr modules, or a combination of one or more modules. The objectives of Answering the Call in Arizona are to equip healthcare professional workforce in the State of Arizona to:

  • Recognize indications of a terrorist incident
  • Rapidly and effectively alert the public health system of such an incident at the community, state, and national level
  • Participate in a coordinated, multidisciplinary response to public health emergencies
  • Identify the acute care needs of patients and treat them in a safe and appropriate manner

The course is organized into the following 4 instructional modules that match these objectives:

  1. Recognizing a Terrorist Incident & Understanding the System
  2. Alerting & Communicating
  3. Participating in a Coordinated System
  4. Caring for the Patient  

All 4 modules of the course are currently available for face to face presentations anywhere within the State of Arizona. The CREST program can provide instructors and materials free of charge. Module 4 is also available in CD format and can be mailed out.

The intended distribution of this course will be to all health professionals including individuals from the disciplines of nursing, medicine, EMS, mental health, pediatrics, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine and allied health.
